Meet Al Joseph

Al Joseph has been a dedicated music educator at Melody Mart since his mid-twenties, teaching violin to students ages four and up. With an Associate of Arts from Prairie State and violin performance studies at the American Conservatory of Music, he brings a wealth of experience to his teaching.


Al's musical journey began in the fourth grade, leading to his first paid performance as a high school senior playing Handel’s Messiah. He has performed with esteemed ensembles such as the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Kankakee Valley Symphony, and Chicago Heights Symphony. His career also includes collaborations with country star Freddy Fender, the US99 Country Roads Band, Grammy-winning songwriter Dave Rudolf, and Grammy-winning polka band Eddie Blazonczyk and the Versatones. A highlight of his career was sitting in with members of the rock band Kansas on Dust in the Wind.


As a teacher, Al combines Suzuki and traditional methods, focusing on instilling joy and appreciation for music in his students. He takes pride in seeing students grow, including several who have gone on to become music educators!

Outside of teaching, Al enjoys playing for fun and exploring various musical styles. His influences include Stéphane Grappelli and Jean-Luc Ponty.

At Melody Mart, Al appreciates the continuously improving environment and remains committed to fostering a positive and engaging learning experience for his students.
