Meet Guadalupe Esquivel Jr.

Guadalupe Esquivel Jr. is an accomplished musician with a rich background in woodwind performance, specializing in bassoon. He began his musical journey in the 5th grade with the clarinet and has since expanded his expertise to include bass clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, oboe, and English horn. With 25 years of experience on the bassoon, Guadalupe has studied Bassoon Performance at Illinois State University and has been a dedicated performer with various musical ensembles, including the Prairie State College Wind Ensemble, South Suburban College Orchestra, and the Homewood-Flossmoor Community Band.

Recently, Guadalupe transitioned from being a long-time customer of Melody Mart to an instructor, driven by his passion for sharing knowledge and guiding the next generation of musicians. He teaches students from grade school to high school, focusing on the bassoon. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of self-expression through music and aims to help students discover their unique musical voice. Guadalupe creates an engaging learning environment by setting both short-term and long-term goals, developing good practice habits, and tailoring lessons to each student's needs and interests.

Guadalupe’s favorite quote is from Leopold Stokowski: "A painter paints on canvas. Musicians paint their pictures on silence.” This reflects his belief in the profound impact of music as a form of personal and artistic expression. He is particularly influenced by bassoonist and composer Victor Bruns and the music of the Baroque era, including works by Bach, as well as Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds and Mozart’s Serenade for 13 Winds.

Guadalupe is excited to work with new and continuing bassoonists at Melody Mart, where he looks forward to contributing to their musical growth and success.
