Hector Lara Jr. is a music educator at Melody Mart and has years of experience teaching various instruments. He began his musical journey in 5th grade with the trumpet, later exploring trombone and tuba during middle and high school. His college education focused on Music Education with an emphasis on band.
At Melody Mart, Hector has been a valued member of the teaching staff for the past couple of years, instructing students of all ages. His teaching repertoire includes trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and conducting. Moreover, he is skilled in flute/piccolo, Bb clarinet, alto saxophone, and ukulele. Hector is influenced by Mexican music and artists such as Joan Sebastian. His favorite teaching resources include "Habits of a Successful Musician" and "Essential Elements."
Outside the classroom, Hector’s passion for music is evident in his involvement with performance groups and his commitment to exposing students to music in innovative ways. His favorite aspect of teaching is connecting with students and seeing them grow both musically and personally. Hector's musical experience goes beyond teaching and has participated in musical ensembles such as the Sounds of Illinois Brass Choir, the Marching Huskies, and the Symphonic Band at VanderCook College of Music.
Hector’s approach to music education is rooted in the belief that students learn best through experience—whether by listening, playing, or creating music. His teaching philosophy focuses on meeting students where they are. He values building meaningful connections with his students and enjoys learning from them as much as they learn from him.
