Music Educator, Vocalist, and Choral Director
Isaih Brown is an aspiring educator, musician, director, and singer who has an esteemed passion and earnest desire to teach music. He has a strong dedication to and enjoyment of music and how it drives him to take on challenging opportunities that will further stem growth in both instructional pedagogy and performance.
Isaih Brown holds an Associate in Fine Arts in music performance from South Suburban College and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Northeastern Illinois University. Recently, he earned a Master of Music Education with licensure from VanderCook College of Music, focusing on choral music where he served as a graduate assistant, performed as a soloist, and played various instruments in vocal ensembles. In his academic ventures, he has studied voice under esteemed instructors and has received advanced training in vocal pedagogy.
Isaih's approach to music education is rooted in the belief that music can significantly enhance students' learning and comprehension. He adheres to Malcolm X's philosophy: "Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for today," applying it to music education. His motto for vocal music education emphasizes developing and embodying one's greatest voice, understanding vocal function, and recognizing the student's role as a vocal athlete. Isaih employs a teaching methodology that combines vocal health and science, technical exercises, body mapping, and a focus on creativity. He encourages experimentation, positive reinforcement, and peer learning. Isaih's favorite aspect of teaching is the creativity it allows. He believes that once a teacher has established rapport and a solid curriculum, they can explore various teaching methods and resources to cater to all learning styles. Isaih is committed to continuous learning and professional development. His involvement in the church and gospel music scene further enriches his teaching and performance capabilities. He is an active music minister and worship leader, performing with gospel choirs throughout Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. He was featured on Dr. Cynthia Nunn's CD, “Witness War Cry.” Moreover, he worked as a freelance drummer and percussionist in Chicago, including with the Chicago Classical Symphony Orchestra.
In the future, Mr. Brown plans to pursue a second master’s degree in vocal performance from the Manhattan School of Music. His ultimate goal is to start a choral music program at his former high school and provide music instruction and after-school programs in Harvey and the south suburban and southeast sides of Chicago. But in the meantime, Isaih values the all-inclusive musical instruction space that Melody Mart caters to students. Isaih's commitment to his students and his passion for music education drive his continuous efforts to improve and enhance the learning experience at Melody Mart.
Isaih Brown's journey in music education is a testament to his resilience, dedication, and passion for teaching. Mr. Brown loves to share his knowledge of music and hopes to one day use his model and application of teaching to further enrich the lives of many children, teens, and young adults who come from underrepresented areas and all walks of life. With over two years of experience at Melody Mart, Isaih has established himself as a versatile and committed instructor.
