Liz holds a Bachelor of Music Education and brings 10 years of teaching experience to Melody Mart. Her musical journey began at the age of 9, participating in both band and church choir, which ignited a lifelong passion for music. Liz's teaching philosophy centers on the belief that anyone can be a musician because it’s part of our human essence. She emphasizes that learning music requires dedication, hours of practice, and perseverance. Her teaching motto, “Learning starts from the inside; teachers help find the kindle and give it the spark it needs to burn bright,” reflects her student-centered approach. Liz meets students where they are, catering to their interests and building from there, acknowledging that each student is unique.
In her studio, Liz creates a welcoming and flexible environment conducive to learning. She finds immense joy in seeing the happiness that music brings to her students and their families and is passionate about sharing her love for music and witnessing her students' success. Liz has played a variety of instruments, including saxophone, guitar, piano, bass, vihuela mexicana, violin, and drum set. She has also performed with the Lake Side Pride Latin Band, drawing inspiration from artists like Sarah Vaughan, Mon Laferte, Paquito D’Rivera, Mariachi Reyna de Los Ángeles, and The Beatles.
Liz teaches a range of genres, including rock, pop, classical, Latin, and R&B. She expects students to come prepared to lessons with their instrument, music, and a pencil, and believes that Melody Mart is a place for everyone, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Some of her favorite teaching resources include the Suzuki Method Books, Essential Elements for Winds, and Chordify for play-alongs. Liz has consented to include her professional contact information in the Melody Mart internal directory. She is still familiarizing herself with the environment and policies at Melody Mart and has yet to identify specific areas for improvement or support needs.
