Scott began his music career in 1965, influenced by rock, jazz, funk, and R&B, and inspired by drummers like Danny Seraphine and Steve Gadd. Active since the 1980s, he worked as an in-house musician at The Hyatt Oakbrook, Hyatt O'Hare, and Nick's Fishmarket during the Club Era. He has performed at corporate events for IGA and Distribution America and regularly plays at weddings, private parties, and clubs. He uses a variety of teaching materials, including "Stick Control" by George Stone, "Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer" by Jim Chapin, "Elementary Drum Method" by Roy Burns, "The New Breed" by Gary Chester, and materials by Paul Cappazolli or Joel Rothman.
Known for his engaging and light-hearted teaching style, Scott believes in fostering a positive learning environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and understand the importance of practice. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the fundamentals, such as rudiments and counting, across genres like rock, bossa nova, samba, jazz, funk, country, and blues. Scott's favorite part of teaching is witnessing the moment students grasp new concepts. He values passion and curiosity in his students, and his teaching motto is simple: "What you put into it is what you'll get out of it."
Scott is committed to the mission of Melody Mart and is always ready to support his students in their musical journeys. Scott has seen his students achieve great success, such as Pat Doody, who went on to tour the world with blues musician Lonnie Brooks. Scott's contributions to the music industry has been recognized in DRUM! Magazine, where he was featured in their September/October 2003 issue.
Scott Bonshire continues to enrich the music community with his extensive experience, passion for teaching, and dedication to his craft. Scott specializes in teaching drumset and snare drum to students aged 7 to adults. You can take lessons with Scott by pre-registering with us!
