Music is such a beautiful and layered language-- it is a juxtaposition of simple and complex system-- meaning that we all get it, but the more you uncover, the more you expose a interwoven net of information. Music Theory, in summary, is the exploration of what makes music music! It is a foundational and necessary to build practical skills for reading music and interpreting musical context.
How Music Theory Game Time Came to be
This might be on us but it was originally called Flash Card Fun-- and as you can imagine, it was not so fun because we didn't get many sign ups :( so this genius brain of mine decided to not only rename it, but also restructure it! While I love me some good flash cards, it's not everyone's cup of tea or learning style.
Instead of flash cards, I recreate games that are popular like Jenga, Uno, Connect 4 and other classics with a twist! The games I designed develop skills in aspects of music, such as rhythm, reading, pattern recognition and more!
All musicians are welcome to participate, but it is recommended for those who have beginner to immediate music theory knowledge. This classes focuses on deepening their music theory foundation.
Does it cost anything?
Music Theory Game Time offers valuable skills at a reasonable cost. If you are a part of the Private Instruction Program or the Group Instruction Program, it is included in your package! (Tips are optional but we appreciate you always!)
For those who are looking to casually drop in, the program fee is $20.

Hello! I'm Esperanza!
I have a background in composition, flute performance, and education-- Just as my other ensembles, I bring a deep passion and extensive knowledge to Music Theory Game Time. My teaching philosophy is centered on creating a supportive and inclusive environment where students can fully explore their musical potential. I believe that music should be accessible and enjoyable for everyone, regardless of their background or aspirations.
As an educator and musician, I am dedicated to the transformative power of music. I strive to engage students actively in the learning process, fostering a sense of wonder and discovery. Anything else I need to know?
The program is designed to meet students at their current skill level and help them grow. Participants do not need to bring anything to each session. A sheet music notebook and pencil may be useful but not necessary.
What are the results of attending this class:
I've seen students go from not knowing what a treble clef is to knowing their major and minor keys. It's really all about consistency. One class isn't going to solidify your knowledge but coming every week and "gaming", best believe that you are going to:
Acquire proficiency in the basic elements of music notation, including key signatures, time signatures, and rhythmic patterns.
Understand the meanings and significance behind various music symbols and their roles in sheet music interpretation.
Develop fluency in translating notes into sound.
Strengthen listening skills by honing the ability to identify pitches, intervals, and harmonies.
Again, the program welcomes learners of all ages, especially those needing to revisit the fundamentals!
