Recital Prep & Presentation Class: Perform with Confidence, Poise, and Joy!

As a teacher, I’ve seen how transformative music can be—not just as an art form but as a way to build confidence, resilience, and self-expression. Whether it’s the first time on stage or the hundredth, nerves and uncertainty can get in the way of the music. The Recital Prep & Presentation class is designed to help musicians develop confidence, stage presence, and performance skills in preparation for recitals and live presentations. The goal is to provide participants with the tools to perform with poise and enjoy sharing their music with an audience.

Perform with Confidence, Poise, and Joy

Why does Melody Mart teach this?

Performing music isn’t just about playing notes; it’s about telling a story, sharing emotions, and connecting with your audience. That’s why I created Recital Prep & Presentation—to help students not only master their music but also develop the confidence and stage presence to perform with pride and joy.

I created this class because I know the challenges that come with performing. I want to help students feel prepared, grounded, and excited to share their talents. My approach is rooted in neuroscience and personal ? I aim to meet each student where they are and guide them toward their own personal success. For me, it’s not just about preparing for a recital or an audition; it’s about giving students tools they can carry with them into other areas of their lives—poise under pressure, the courage to take risks, and the joy of sharing something they’ve worked hard to create.

This class is about more than just playing music; it’s about creating an experience. Every student’s journey is different, and I take pride in tailoring lessons to fit their needs and goals. My hope is that each student leaves not just prepared for a recital but inspired to keep growing as musicians and individuals.

What do we do in Recital Prep & Presentation Class

Each session in the Recital Prep & Presentation Class is designed around five key concepts:

  1. Stage Presence and Audience Connection – Learn how to present yourself with poise and professionalism, ensuring a memorable performance.

  2. Performance Etiquette and Preparation Techniques – The bread and butter of recital prep and presentation! We talk about practicing strategies, memorization strategies and effective rehearsal methods all to result in a smooth and polished recital, including

  3. Strategies for Managing Nerves – We do exercises to build confidence, reduce anxiety and boost self-assurance!

  4. Audition and Recital Expectations – We go over what to expect at auditions and recitals, how to develop, portfolios, music bios, and much more

  5. Expressive Musical Storytelling – How we connect with the audience and convey emotions through your music!

While I always come prepared with a structured lesson plan, I start each class by asking two questions: “What do you want to go over?” and “Do you have any questions?” That way I can address the needs of the students. Each session runs for 90 to 120 minutes, depending on the number of students and the depth of their questions.

"Wow, did she take the the Recital Prep & Presentation class?"

What are the results of attending this class:

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I want to emphasize that this class is designed to be retaken as many times as needed until you feel confident and comfortable in your performance abilities. It is all about empowering musicians with skills and confidence that reach far beyond the stage. That skill is not developed overnight and only developed in the context of performances and feedback.

So the goal is to help students develop the ability to command attention and connect with their audience, presenting themselves with professionalism and poise. Additionally, the program incorporates professional development skills as well; we are acquiring practical skills to manage performance anxiety, recital planning to deliver polished performances, and providing insight into audition expectations, portfolio creation to prepare for future opportunities.

Beyond these musical achievements, this class imparts valuable life skills, including poise under pressure, the courage to take risks, and the joy of sharing hard work.
